Muritz National Park

How long: 3 days the 1st week of August (1999)

How: by train till Kratzeburg where I rented the canoe. Then paddling till Neustrelitz where the renting place keeper came by car to take his canoe.

Where I slept: in the campsites with my tent

Weather and temperature: the weather was cloudy and sometimes rainy, while the temperature was nice (18- 25). Remember that on the big lakes it’s often windy.

What you need: a waterproof jacket, moreover a detailed map of the park and a compass will be very useful

What I liked: the Park is a kind of labyrinth organised for long canoe trips. For instance there’re dedicated tracks equipped with trolleys on rails to connect some channels or to by pass the locks.

What I disliked: paddling in the big lakes can be boring, especially when you’re facing the wind

Tip: it can be done even without being a “canoe guy”, but at least don’t overdo planning the daily distances! The last but not the least, we didn’t find out mosquitoes to be an issue
